Google Glass, one of the most interesting devices of the past few years, was recently shown off by by Google co-founder Sergey Brin, at a TED conference in Long Beach, Calif. During the conference, Brin was discussing the gadget, which is a hands-free device that fits on your face just like a pair of glasses, and the Google bigwig had some strange words to say about smartphones.

His exact words about such handsets are "You're standing around and just rubbing this featureless piece of glass," which he finds "emasculating."

Google Glass, as it turns out, still requires a bit of rubbing, as he puts it, but obviously far less than a regular smartphone. His main goal at the conference was to stress not the Google Glass, but the idea that the ideal search technology would surface information before the user even asks for it, according to a report found on CNET.

He also mentioned a few details that will interest people wishing to obtain a Google Glass for themselves. Brin is quoted as saying the original idea for the device was similar to "cell phone strapped to your head," but now offers a much smoother design.

After two years of design, people will soon be able to get a copy of the Google Glass by the end of 2013. While the window to apply for a copy of the device before a wide release has ended, curious customers will be able to get the device for less than $1,500 dollars when it does become available to the public. Those lucky enough to have won a pre-release copy through the recent #ifihadglass contest will soon be able to pick one up for $1,500.

Brin may have his reasons for disliking smartphones, but many people will put the innovative Google Glass on their radars for the sheer cutting edge factor. After all, Google Glass will be able to take photos with a single voice command, record video, stream live video, share with friends, get directions, and even translate your voice into another language. All of this will be hands free, projected onto the glasses. Check out this wild video below to get some idea of the abilities of the Google Glass.
