Decades ago, she captured America's hearts during the Winter Olympics on the ice; now, Dorothy Hamill hopes to duplicate that same success on the hardwood.
Hamill has been selected to appear as one of the contestants in the new season of ABC's wildly-popular "Dancing With The Stars" competition this March.
Announced on Tuesday by ABC on "Good Morning America," Hamill joins a cast that features Super Bowl champion and Baltimore Ravens wide receiver Jacoby Jones, comedians Andy Dick and D.L. Hughley, country singer Winona Judd, gymnastics Olympic gold medalist Aly Raisman and more.
The dancing competition, which will require style, grace and agility, plays right into Hamill's strengths as an American ice figure skating legend.
Hamill, 56, won over legions of fans in 1976 when she won the gold medal in the singles competition during the 1976 Winter Olympics in Innsbruck, Austria at the tender age of 19. She also won the World Championships in figure skating.
As the Baltimore Sun notes, athletes tend to do very well in the "Dancing With The Stars" competition. NFL star Hines Ward won the competition in 2011, as did NFL legend Emmitt Smith, Green Bay Packers wide receiver Donald Driver, Olympic gold medalist and gymnast Shawn Johnson, speed skating champion Apolo Anton Ohno and former Olympic ice skating gold medalist Kristi Yamaguchi.
The 16th season of "Dancing With The Stars" will debut on March 18.
