As spring quickly approaches not only does it drive out the unforgiving cold, but it also opens room for events such as the first Colombian Film Festival of New York to take place in more enjoyable weather.

From March 20 - 24 people can expect to cry, cringe, scream, laugh and enjoy the magic and passion of Colombian filmmaking.

The event will feature films, documentaries, shorts, forums, animation as well as some U.S. & World Premieres that will allow you to explore the many faces of the country and discover the Colombian talent.

This year, some of the films that will be exhibited in the film festival include the following:

"Mom, Eat Your Soup" is the story of a 40-year-old man who lives with his overbearing mother. One day he meets the new neighborhood hairdresser and woman of his dreams, played by Miss Colombia Paola Turbay, and to impress her he sells himself as an independent man. She offers to give an a treatment for his baldness, and after seeing a bit of hair growing out of his shiny scalp, he promises to invest in her miraculous concoction but what she doesn't know is the he will need his mother's funds to make her dreams come true.

"Choco" is a hard-working woman with a deadbeat husband and two kids. On her daughter's birthday her only wish is to have a birthday cake. The loving mother goes to work at the gold mine to make enough to make her daughter's wish come true, wish which in a second is destroyed as she tries to defy her husband in front of his friends by demanding "donde esta la plata de mis hijos," (where is my children's money.)

"All Your Dead" is a dark satire of a farmer who on Election Day tries any way possible to report a massacre to the authorities which continuously ignore him. Follow his comical adventure as he tries to be heard but ends up getting him and his family threatened by the town's mayor and lieutenant.

"Sofia and the Stubborn" is a tale of a woman who for 40 years has done the same tiring routine of attending to her husband. She only knows the mountainside side as she was born there, raised there and married there but she dreams of going to the sea, dream which is delayed by her husband's excuses of not being able to leave his grocery store unattended. Realizing that life is not getting any longer, her friend decides it is time take the trip and they both sneak off to find the sea.

"Pablo's Hippos" is the tale of Colombia's 30 year struggle with drug trafficking and violence told through the story of Pablo Escobar's beloved pet hippo.

All the films will be subtitled in English.
