New disturbing details have emerged about an alleged murder plot targeting Justin Bieber.

The plot first surfaced in December 2012, when New Mexico TV station KRQE reported that three men had concocted an elaborate plan to strangle Bieber and three other people. The would-be murderers, Mark Staake, his nephew Tanner Ruane, and Dana Martin, met in prison in Las Cruces, N.M., where Martin was serving two life sentences for raping and murdering a 15-year-old girl, KRQE's Alex Tomlin reports (read more details here).

Martin is apparently obsessed with Justin Bieber, and he asked Staake and Ruane to carry out a plot to strangle Bieber and his bodyguard and castrate them with hedge clippers once they got out of prison.

Staake and Ruane were released from prison and headed for the east coast, but before they could harm anyone, Staake and Ruane were stopped by police in Vermont, and are now under investigation, according to E! Online.

Now, audio from phone calls last November between Dana Martin and his accomplices has been released, confirming Martin as the "mastermind behind the plot," reports ABC News.

Martin asked Ruane if Staake had discussed the Bieber murder plot with him, and Ruane replied, "Nah. The way I like to work dude, I like to know as little as possible. He's gonna use one of the things you gave him, and then he's gonna take care of it." Police said that 'take care of it' means 'commit the murder.'

The men also talked about using hedge clippers to castrate Bieber and his bodyguard in New York. Ruane said he wanted $5,000 for "each one I get." (Go to ABC News for more grisly details from the taped conversations).

Each of the three men is facing "two counts each of conspiracy to commit murder and two counts each of conspiracy to commit aggravated battery," says ABC News.
