Gamers and tech junkies alike everywhere are all simmering with anticipation concerning Sony's PlayStation event that will be held tomorrow, Feb. 20. It's pretty much expected that the announcement is going to be a PlayStation 4, and while official details should begin flowing much more freely after tomorrow, we have a little bit of news concerning the PlayStation 4's price ahead of time.
A British newspaper has come out saying that Sony will price the PlayStation 4 rather aggressively, even making it easier to pick up at launch than the PlayStation 3 was.
"Industry sources and leaked internal documents suggest that Sony is considering pricing the new device at about £300, more than £100 cheaper than the starting cost of its predecessor, the PlayStation 3," writes The Times.
A little bit of math shows that £300 translates to around $465 - bear in mind, however, that hardware is generally cheaper in the United States than in Europe.
Still, The Times goes on to state that the actual price won't be revealed until Microsoft comes out and reveals its next-generation gaming console - the Xbox 720 - most likely so Sony doesn't get blindsided.
A number of details about the PlayStation 4 have been leaking out ahead of its official reveal, and show the console should take major strides in connectivity. Sony will be holding a "future" of the PlayStation event at 5 p.m. EST in New York City, and will even be offering a live stream of the event. Sony has been slashing prices on some older devices like the PlayStation Vita, indicating that it's ready to introduce some new hardware. Until then, however, treat everything as rumor, as Sony hasn't confirmed any of the following details.
A recent report indicated that Sony would be integrating social networking heavily into the actual gaming experience, allowing for users to easily share gameplay footage and other achievements with each other on their favorite networks like Facebook.
What seems to be a PlayStation 4 prototype controller pic (shown above) also leaked onto the Internet, and shows off a built-in touchscreen, microphone, and PlayStation Move bar.
The PlayStation 4 is also said to support Ultra HD 4k resolutions and have a streaming service to give PlayStation 4 owners access to the vast library of games from the previous PlayStation consoles, i.e. backwards compatibility.
