Apple has announced the new generation iOS, the operating system that runs its iPhone devices, at its WWDC 2012. However, the news on the iOS 6 seems to have stirred more interest for the next iPhone, namely iPhone 5, than for the operating system itself.

The iOS 6 revealed at Moscone West in San Francisco on Monday is currently available for Apple developers. Although the time has not been confirmed yet officially, people expect it to be available to the public by September. And consequently, the iPhone 5 is rumored to be launched at or around the same time.

The new mobile operating system, supposedly supported by the next iPhone, is to beef up the functions of Apple’s smart phones. First of all, the new Map app on the iOS 6 will have 3-D imaging and turn-by-turn directions which will essentially replace Google Maps as the default mapping service on Apple devices. Apple users would be able to use the iPhone 5 as a navigation GPS with its own native app.

What’s more would be its enhancement of Siri, which now supports 15 different languages. The voice service from Apple will be highly integrated with iOS 6 enabling users to launch apps by speaking to the phone and, possibly, even drive for you in the future as Apple is reportedly working with auto manufacturers.

According to previous rumors, the iPhone 5 is to have an A6 chip, 2GB of RAM, 8-megapixel camera, HD video recording, and better battery. Also this time, Apple may make the new iPhone larger, increasing the 3.5-inch screen to 4 inches.

WWDC 2012 has presented numerous products and softwares including the updated MacBook Air and MacBook Pro, iOS 6, and OS X Mountain Lion.

Apple is still holding on to the news that everyone is waiting for – the release date of iPhone 5.

But if rumors are true, and now supported by the launch of the iOS 6, people may expect the new iPhone in Apple store as early as this fall.
