Sony is expected to be releasing the Xperia Z in two major markets in Europe by the end of February. Reports are now out saying that Vodafone in the UK is accepting pre-orders for the device, with a release date on February 28, and the German Sony Store will be selling Xperia Zs there starting February 21.

Other carriers in the UK, O2 and Three, have already started pre-orders for Sony's next breakthrough handset. Some even bundled a pair of expensive headphones with the pre-orders, as we reported earlier. Vodafone has joined O2 and Three in the pre-order rush, now offering the device free for a 2-year contract of their unlimited minutes, unlimited text, and 2GB data plan, according to Ubergizmo.

Consumers will be paying a little more up-front for an Xperia Z if they go with less expensive or shorter contracts. Vodafone is offering the same headphone deal to the first 1000 pre-orders, which are sure to fly off the digital shelves quickly. The headphones are the Sony MDR -1R cans, worth about $300 in the United States.

In Germany, the Sony Store appears to be making the handset available beginning on February 21, according to Android Community, but there's been no official announcement, so don't take that as gospel.

As we previously reported, the Xperia is launching in other European countries on February 28, and already hit the stores in Japan at the beginning of this month. This is an exciting offering from Sony for several reasons. The handset comes with a 5-inch touchscreen display, a 1.5GHz quad-core processor, and a 13.1-megapixel camera capable of 4128x3096p photos and some great low-light videography and photography.

It also is water-resistant for up to 30 minutes at depths of up to 1 meter.
