New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg will address New Yorkers in the State of the City address today.

Mayor Bloomberg will note that 2013 will be the busiest and most important year yet. The mayor, serving his third term as NYC mayor, was introduced by Brooklyn President Marty Markowitz to the music of Jay-Z and Alicia Keys' "Empire State of Mind.

Mayor Bloomberg is expected to talk about the record number of murders and shootings in the city, record high life expectancy, which is 2.2 years longer than the national average, crime in schools, which has been down 49 percent, and tourism.

Additional topics and themes Mayor Bloomberg will review are:

Record Welfare Low Hit in 2008 - With welfare rolls down 21.5 percent in 2012 compared to 2001.

Record Number of Rezonings - With more than 36 percent of the city now rezoned to increase investment and protect neighborhood character.

Record Low Number of Traffic Fatalities in 2011 and Record Number of Bike Lanes Created (around 440 miles).

Record City Investment in Mass Transit -With first City-funded expansion of the subway in half a century and successful new East River Ferry service.

Record Investment in Our City's Infrastructure - Since 2002, the City has committed more than $88 billion to capital infrastructure projects, including improvements to the City's roads, sewers, public buildings, and the construction of the Third Water Tunnel.

Record Engagement - Record amount of private donations and pledges to support public projects (nearly $77 million in 2012), and a record number of volunteers engaged through NYC Service (1.7 million).

Record Low Number of Children in Foster Care - Number of children in foster care has dropped more than 50 percent since 2002 (from nearly 28,000 to just over 13,000 today).
