As the month of February wears on, more and more variants of Samsung's best-selling handset from 2011, the Galaxy S2, are receiving their fill of Android 4.1 Jelly Bean. The latest recipient happens to be the GT-I9100M commonly found in Canada.

According to report from SamMobile, Samsung has started pushing out Android 4.1.2 for the GT-I9100M OTA. Android updates are usually rolled out in random batches, meaning if you haven't seen the update on your handset yet, you can either wait for it to eventually hit, or you can use Samsung's KIES software to install it yourself. The call is yours, but make no mistake, build JZO54K is official, and puts the almost-two-year-old handset a step ahead of many newer handsets.

The update gives the Galaxy S2 a system boost thanks to Project Butter as well as a number of software additions. Android 4.1.2 makes the Galaxy S2 run the latest Samsung UI, similar to the one on the newer Galaxy S3 and Galaxy Note 2, and makes Jelly Bean-only features like Google Now ready to use. SamMobile, which has a history of working with Samsung firmware updates, has repeatedly stated that Jelly Bean for the Galaxy S2 is the "most major update given to a smartphone yet."

The GT-I9100M joins only a handful of Galaxy S2 variants worldwide that are currently having Jelly Bean rolled out to them. Users in Spain were the first to receive Jelly Bean, followed by SHW-M250L users in South Korea, and GT-I9100G owners. You can bet more are on the way, as the demand for the Galaxy S2 update has been huge.

There's still no word on when U.S. carriers will be rolling out Android 4.1.2 for their Galaxy S2s. Still, it's important to remember, that while it's not pleasant, there is a lengthy process an Android update has to go through before it can reach a handset when carriers are involved.  As the saying goes in the Android world, if you can't wait, grab a Nexus device, all of which get their orders straight from the head honcho with no carriers involved (unless the Nexus device is a carrier variant) - Google.
