A Massachusetts man was charged with drug trafficking after police discovered $10,000 worth of crystal meth hidden inside a Valentine's Day teddy bear sent to his home, MyFoxBoston.com reports.
Police reportedly found 96 grams of meth hidden inside the stuffed bear, which had been delivered to Lawrence Ligocki, 62.
The package first caught the attention of postal inspectors on Feb. 5 when they noticed it was addressed to "Larry Lajoicki," instead of Ligocki. Police drug-sniffing dogs found evidence of something suspicious inside, and police "obtained a warrant to search the package upon delivery," says My Fox Boston.
A postal inspector posing as a mail carrier delivered the package, and once Ligocki had signed for it, the inspector opened the box and discovered the crystal meth stash. Authorities arrested Ligocki and searched his home, where they found what they believed to be an additional bag of crystal meth in a jar.
Lajoicki was freed on $150 bail after pleading not guilty, and will return to court on March 4, according to MyFoxBoston.
Plenty of drug smugglers have found creative ways to transport their goods. In 2011, The Smoking Gun reported that two women attempted to smuggle the narcotic Suboxone to inmates in a New Jersey jail by grinding the drug into a paste and painting it into children's coloring books featuring Cinderella and Snow White (they were caught when another inmate tipped off police).
And that same year, the Telegraph reported that Colombian police captured a carrier pigeon with a bundle of marijuana and cocaine strapped to its back.
