Taylor Swift may like writing songs about her exes, but she says she never chases boys. In an interview and a 60s-inspired spring photo shoot for the new issue of Elle, Swift, 23, talks about how she deals with ex-boyfriends, rumors, and overcoming insecurity.

"Middle school was what programmed me to be semi-insecure, like, all of the time," she told Elle. "I didn't fit in...I'd stand on the outside of the circle but I was never really in. That's when I started to realize there's this thing called rejection."

Professionally, at least, Swift hasn't dealt with much rejection lately. She won her seventh Grammy award on Sunday for her song "Safe & Sound" with the Civil Wars, under the category of Best Song Written for Visual Media, and she was nominated for Record of the Year for her hit single "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together."

Swift caused a stir during her opening performance at the Grammys for appearing to mock ex-boyfriend Harry Styles. "So he calls me up, and he's like, I still love you," she said, prouncing 'love' in a mock British accent. Then she said, "I'm sorry, I'm busy opening up the Grammys, and we're never getting back together, like ever."

But she said that although she likes to sing a lot about her exes, it more about processing her feelings about a breakup than holding onto grudge. "I don't think I've ever yelled at an ex-boyfriend," she told Elle. "Ever. I'm not a thrower. If something is done, it's done."

She added that the rumors that she likes to chase boys just aren't true. "People love that angle on me," she told the magazine. "They're like 'Oh Taylor, coming on too strong again, chasing boys.' I never chase boys. They don't like it!"
