While many consumers are looking forward to the slew of new high-end tech devices that will hit the market in 2013, there are still many out there with older, incredibly popular devices, such as the Samsung Galaxy S2. Good news for these owners is that Samsung hasn't left them to the dogs, and is updating the many versions of the handset to Android 4.1.
The latest variant of the Galaxy S2 to receive Jelly Bean is the GT-I9100G, which is basically identical to the more popular GT-I9100 except that it features a Texas Instruments OMAP4430 SoC instead of the Exynos 4210 processor. The model is mostly found in Asian and European markets.
Owners of a GT-I9100G can grab the update through Samsung's KIES software or wait for the OTA rollout to hit them. Android updates do come out in batches, so if your device hasn't received Jelly Bean yet, don't worry, it should arrive soon.
The GT-I9100G joins the GT-I9100 and SHW-M250L variants as the only three Galaxy S2 models to have Jelly Bean currently being pushed out for them. While it's pretty much a given, there are still no concrete details on when U.S. carriers will begin updating Galaxy S2 variants on their networks, although in a worst-case scenario, the upgrade could still be months away.
Android 4.1 Jelly Bean for the Galaxy S2 is the "most major update given to a smartphone yet," according to SamMobile. It gives users access to Google Now, a Siri-esque voice assistant as well as Samsung's latest interface, Nature UX.
