Manchester United has been the top team in the Premier League for months but second place Manchester City is within striking distance. United will look to extend its lead when it takes on Southampton.

Sir Alex Ferguson's club has gone 11 premier league contests without a loss. However the team has piled on a few draws in that span, including a disappointing 1-1 tie with Tottenham Hotspur in its last match. Robin Van Persie scored his team leading 18th goal in the 25th minute but goalkeeper David De Gea gave the lead away in the third minute of second half stoppage when he directed an aerial ball into traffic in front of his net. The Manchester United defense missed its assignments and Clint Dempsey slotted home the tying goal.

Southampton has had a tough season and is four points away from a relegation spot with 24. The squad has not lost in its last six, but has only picked up one win in that span. Southampton did manage some strong draws with Everton and Chelsea in its most recent contests, but needs to put together some wins to create more distance with the relegation squads.

Last time these sides met, Manchester won 3-2 on Sept. 2.

Prediction: Manchester United will win this 3-1.
