The cable news networks seen a busy January with events leading to President Barack Obama's second inauguration and hearings from politicians, but has it resulted in better television ratings?

The January 2013 ratings are in and Fox News reigns supreme for the 11th year, however, their numbers have gone on the decline, notably in the lucrative 25 to 54 year old demographic.

According to TV Newser, Fox News was down six percent in total viewers and down 22 percent in the 25-54 demo this month, the lowest since July 2008.

The primetime lineup was down 17 percent overall and down 40 percent in the 25-54 demographic, a low not seen since May 2006.

A good note for Fox is their evening show "The Five," which saw ratings improve by 21 percent in total viewers and up five percent in the 25-54 demographic.

Rival MSNBC is also seeing positive numbers as they start 2013 with ratings improving in every hour, including the primetime shows.

"The Ed Show" with Ed Schultz was up four percent in total viewers and 23 percent in the lucrative demographic while the 9 p.m. "The Rachel Maddow Show" gained 11 percent and 32 percent, in total and demographics, respectively. "The Last Word" showed better numbers, up 26 percent in total viewers and up 34 percent in the 25-54 demographic.

Daytime shows such as "Martin Bashir," "Hardball," "PoliticsNation," and "The Cycle" also saw improvements.

CNN, however, is seeing mixed results. The Cable News Network was slightly up in total viewers but saw losses in the demographics, notably in primetime.

"The Situation Room with Wolf Blitzer" and "Erin Burnett OutFront" were up double digits in both total viewers and in the 25-54 demographics.

"Piers Morgan Tonight," which has seen new buzz due to its gun control debates, saw ratings up 10 percent in total viewers but down two percent in the demographics. "Anderson Cooper 360" is slightly up by five and three percent in total and demographics, respectively.

Soledad O'Brien's morning show "Starting Point" is seeing slow growth, up four percent compared to January 2012. Things could change for "Starting Point" as CNN confirmed hiring Chris Cuomo from ABC.

"Chris is an accomplished anchor who is already an established name in morning television, as well as a widely respected investigative journalist," said CNN Worldwide President Jeff Zucker in a statement. "What I love about Chris is that he is passionate about every story he tells, never forgets about the viewer, and represents the type of journalism that makes CNN great."

According to a memo sent to CNN staff, Cuomo will anchor a new morning show for the network. No details yet on if the new morning show will feature O'Brien or if she'll be assigned other duties.

"This is a fantastic opportunity to do what I value the most and hopefully to do the work that I do best," said Cuomo in the memo. "While it's very difficult to leave ABC News, a place filled with people I have loved working with for many years, I am excited about my future with CNN."
