ABC has pulled the plug on its sophomore sitcom 'Don't Trust the B---- in Apartment 23," it was announced on Tuesday. The show, which featured Krysten Ritter and 'Dawson's Creek' actor James Van Der Beek (as himself), was pulled from the network's lineup immediately, E! News reported.

According to E! News, the network filled the gap with extra episodes of another comedy, 'Happy Endings,' starting January 29. Although the network has yet to officially cancel the show, Van Der Beek took to Twitter to confirm the news himself.

"Sad to say ABC has pulled #Apt23 and will not be airing the 8 remaining episodes any time soon. Translation: we've basically been cancelled," the actor tweeted. Van Der Beek went on to explain the decision and urged fans to not take out their anger towards the network.

"I know most of you watched us on your own time & platform and that the competitive network scheduling game is irrelevant to you...But network TV is a business dictated by Nielson ratings. And while that's an antiquated business model, it's the only one they've got," he wrote. According to E! News, the second season of the show averaged about 3 million viewers and earned a 1.2 rating in the adults 18-49 demo.

Van Der Beek continued, "You've got to give ABC props for ever picking us up in the first place. They took a shot at something original & edgy. I respect them for that." He then tweeted the link to a fan created Facebook page called, "Save Don't Trust the B in Apt 23." The page has garnered over 2,800 likes since it was created on December 9, 2012.

E! News added that about two weeks ago, ABC President Paul Lee had told reporters that the network had not decided yet on the future of 'Don't Trust the B---- in Apartment 23' and 'Happy Endings.' Lee said, "We love those two shows. They're incredibly distinctive, and they're water-cooler shows."

'Don't Trust the B---- in Apartment 23' isn't the only comedy to get kicked off their air this week. On Wednesday, FOX reportedly pulled the plug on its freshmen comedy 'Ben and Kate.' According to the NY Daily News, the last airing of the show drew about 2.6 million viewers.

'Ben and Kate' will be replaced by 'Raising Hope' on January 29, February 5 and February 26 and then by a new season of 'Hell's Kitchen' starting March 12.
