Yet another European country will be getting the version of the Samsung Galaxy S4 with a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 processor, not the Exynos 5 Octa eight-core processor.
We learned yesterday that Sweden, in addition to the United States, will get the Qualcomm processor, and now Samsung has confirmed the United Kingdom will also join that list.
"Samsung Galaxy S4 is equipped with a 1.9GHz Quad-core AP or a 1.6GHz Octa-core AP. The selection of AP varies by markets. In the UK, the Galaxy S4 will be available as a 4G device with a 1.9GHz Quad Core Processor," the company said in response to a query from Android Authority.
That news may disappoint eager fans who are waiting for the upgrade to Samsung's flagship phone. But keep in mind that there are not currently any useful benchmarks comparing the two processors, so we don't actually know if the Exynos 5 is going to be significantly faster than the Snapdragon 600.
Samsung seems to be concerned about its component supply, because large markets seem to be slated for the Snapdragon. Qualcomm has plenty of those processors in supply, but mass market production of the Exynos 5 isn't set to begin until the second quarter of the year, when the S4 buying frenzy should already be under way.
The Samsung Galaxy S4 features a 1.6 GHz eight-core Exynos 5 Octa processor or a 1.9 GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 processor (depending on country), 2 GB of RAM, a 5-inch 1920x1080 Full HD AMOLED display at 441 ppi, a 13 megapixel rear-facing camera with 1080p HD video, a 2 megapixel front facing camera, internal storage between 16 and 64 GB, an SD card slot that can accommodate an additional 64 GB, a polycarbonate body, Smart Pause and floating touch tech and runs Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean.
