Super Smash Bros. 4 for the Wii U and 3DS is one of the most anticipated games, and despite the title's 2014 release date Nintendo has been releasing a steady stream of news on the official Super Smash Bros. website. We bring you the latest updates about the game, as well as recapping what news has come out about the game.

So far 14 characters have been confirmed for the game. Nintendo revealed 12 of the characters at E3: Mario, Bowser, Samus, Fox, Pikachu, Donkey Kong, Pit, Kirby, Link, Wii Fit Trainer, Animal Crossing Villager and Mega Man. Since then, Nintendo has confirmed two returning characters for the game, Olimar and his Pikmin and Luigi. More characters should be released soon, and hopefully Nintendo will reveal new characters for the game as opposed to returning characters.

Nintendo has also unveiled some new stages for the game. The biggest stage reveal is for a stage based off of the classic SNES game Pilotwings. It looks as though the stage will allow players to hop on planes and travel all over the island stage, so it could be a very dynamic map for players to explore.

Nintendo releases a new screenshot from the Wii U or 3DS version of the game every day, and they announce some interesting scenarios that can happen in the game. For example, one screenshot shows Luigi reacting to having one of Mega Man's crash bombs attached to his stomach, as Mega Man's robotic dog Rush looks on. Another interesting image shows the Wii Fit Trainer doing some stretches near the Wii Fit Board (possibly an item in the game?), as Luigi lays near her in obvious pain. It looks as though Nintendo likes to show Luigi getting beaten up in their previews.

The company may choose to reveal new information about the game next week at Gamescom, the video game expo that takes place in Cologne, Germany Aug. 21 to 25. While Microsoft and Sony will also have a big presence at the event, Nintendo may use this time to release new video from the game and show off some new stages or characters for the game.
