The upcoming Super Smash Bros game for the Wii U and 3DS has gamers anxious for any and all information about the game that they can get their hands on. Well now Nintendo has revealed a returning character has been confirmed for the new Smash Bros games, and in addition the game's creator has confirmed a new stage set to appear as well.

The returning character is none other than Luigi, the sidekick and occasional star of many different Nintendo games over several decades. This news comes from today's Nintendo Direct which was reported on by IGN. The character is a veteran to the Super Smash Bros series, having appeared in every game of the series so far. While this may not be a big bombshell for fans of the series, it is good to hear Nintendo expanding the roster of the game after revealing a dozen characters for the game at E3 this year. Since that presentation in June only one other character has been confirmed for the game. Captain Olimar and his Pikmin will be part of the game, so with Luigi this brings the roster up to 14 characters so far.  While some have speculated about who will be included in the game, Nintendo has been tight lipped about who will be in the game, despite the fact that executive  Reggie Fils-Aime is a fan favorite to appear on the roster.

In addition to the announcement of Luigi, a new stage has been announced for the games. This new stage is based on SNES classic Pilotwings, and was announced by the game's creator Masahiro Sakurai on the official Super Smash Bros website. Pilotwings is a flight simulator that has most recently appeared primarily on the 3DS, leading some to believe that the stage will be exclusive to the 3DS. This move would make sense, due to the Wii U having stages based on Wii U games and the 3DS having stages based on handheld titles. It will be interesting to see what kind of stage that the Pilotwings stage will be like, and if it indicates more dynamic maps due to the potential for fighters dealing with planes taking off and landing. It is unknown what other stages will be included in the game, but this has not stopped wish lists for the game appearing.

Super Smash Bros 4 is due out sometime in 2014, and gamers should keep it here for all the latest news and rumors concerning the game.
