Who is better? Cristiano Ronaldo or Lionel Messi? The two greatest living soccer players not only compete in the same league but for rival squads. Messi has had the edge over the last few years as Barcelona has been the supreme squad in European soccer, but Ronaldo may be having the best year of his career. Every week we will look at which player had the better week and which holds the edge to date for the season. Let us look at what the two superstars accomplished during the fourth week of La Liga.

Coming into week 4, Messi has a 3-1 lead over Ronaldo.

Messi: "La Pulga" had a big week as he singlehandedly gave his team victory against Spartak Moscow in the UEFA Champions League Match. However, he was invisible for the entire first half as he was always surrounded by three or four defensemen at every turn. He lit up the team with two goals in the second half, one of which was a beautiful header. In the second match of the weak against lowly Granada he was held scoreless, but his cross created the own goal that secured victory of Barcelona.

Ronaldo: The Portuguese playmaker had a week to remember. He scored a game winner in the 90th minute against Manchester City in the first group game of the UECL and was all over the pitch creating chances left and right. He had two chances to score in that match and was finally rewarded in the waning moments to seal the deal and lift his club to victory. In the second match against Rayo Vallecano he was equally dangerous. He was the catalyst on the Karim Benzema goal as he fed the ball to a streaking Angel Di Maria who snuck the ball to Benzema for the goal. Ronaldo added a penalty goal to secure the victory and a strong match for him.

Stats through Week 5

Messi 6 goals, 1 assist (2 goals in UCL)

Ronaldo 3 goals, 0 assists (1 goal in UCL)

Edge: This is a tough one as both players had solid weeks. Both won UCL matches for their clubs and had strong matches during their respective Liga matches. It's a draw and each one gets a point for a strong week. Messi still leads though 4-2.
