Police say gun fire erupted in a Denver home today killing one woman, two young children and injuring another, according to an AP report.

The sudden act of violence appears to be an isolated incident with no shooter running on the loosing, authorities say.

"Is there a mass killer or someone running around? At this time we don't believe so," Major Crimes Commander Ron Saunier said.

The fatal shooting took place at a residence near 49th Street and Pearl Avenue in the northeastern section of the city, reports say, where investigators have found the bullet ridden bodies of two children believed to be under the age of ten and the dead body of a woman believed to be their mother.

Another child was found alive but injured and was taken to the hospital and is in critical condition, early reports say. The identity of the victims and the gender of the children has not been released by authorities at this time.

The shooting may have been a murder-suicide, according to unconfirmed news reports. The area has been closed off by police as investigators assess the scene.

This latest shooting comes only a two weeks after gun control advocates rallied in Washington and other major city's across the country to pressure lawmakers to toughen national gun laws. The mass movement was provoked into action after 26 people, 20 of them young children, were massacred by a gunman at Newtown, Connecticut, on December 14.
