While their city rivals the Brooklyn Nets are riding high after their recent moves, the New York Knicks are making sure that they will remain as one of the top teams in the Eastern Conference in the 2013-14 NBA Season.

The Knicks further shored up their frontline, signing veteran power forward Kenyon Martin to a one-year deal on Thursday night. The terms of the deal were not disclosed, but the Knicks could only offer a veteran's minimum due to salary-cap constraints.

Martin went unsigned last summer, but was picked up by the Knicks in February. The 13-year-veteran initially signed a 10-day contract, but was eventually signed for the remainder of the season.

The 35-year-old averaged 7.2 points and 5.3 rebounds in 18 regular-season games, including 11 starts. Martin also played a huge role for the Knicks in the playoffs, chipping in 5.8 points and 4.5 rebounds in 12 games.

"Kenyon did a fantastic job for us once he signed in February. He strengthened our frontline going into an important stretch of the season with some very impressive performances. We are happy to have him back," said Knicks general manager Glen Grunwald in a statement on the team's official website.

Martin is expected to be the fourth frontline option of the Knicks, next to starting center Tyson Chandler, oft-injured Amar'e Stoudemire, and newly-acquired sweet-shooting big man Andrea Bargnani.

Meanwhile, Metta World Peace, who was acquired by the Knicks earlier this month, is reportedly contemplating another name change.

Rumors suggested that World Peace is considering changing his name back to Ron Artest. In an interview with ClevverNews, World Peace did not confirm or deny whether he'll revert to his old name, but admitted that he is planning to change his name, though not legally.

"We are going to do a name change, but I can't tell you what it is," World Peace said.

The 33-year-old defensive-specialist forward changed his name from Ron Artest to Metta World Peace in September 2011 through a long and tedious process, which he is not looking to undergo again until he retires, said World Peace.
