The Minnesota Timberwolves just got even stronger. After sending Luke Ridnour to the Milwaukee Bucks via sign-and-trade, the Wolves acquired veteran banger Ronny Turiaf on a two-year, $3.2 million deal.

The T-Wolves continued one of the most successful summers in franchise history by adding Turiaf to the team's already formidable free-agency signings, which include shooting guard Kevin Martin, forward Chase Budinger and wing defender Corey Brewer.

Suddenly, the Wolves have a lineup strong enough on paper to contend for a playoff spot, or even make a run for the title next season.

Known for being an enforcer in the league, Turiaf averaged barely two points in 10 minutes per game for the Los Angeles Clippers last season. However, many teams considered Turiaf as a high-character guy that can instantly provide a jolt of energy from the bench.

Meanwhile, the Los Angeles Lakers reportedly signed free-agent shooting guard Nick Young to a one-year deal after amnestying Metta World Peace on Thursday.

Young, who averaged 10.6 points in 23.9 minutes per game with the Philadelphia 76ers, could have netted a better paycheck, but his representative Mark Bartelstein said playing for the Lakers has always been the guard's dream.

Lakers general manager Mitch Kupchak is excited as well about acquiring Young, who can give the team another player with the ability to make his shots while Kobe Bryant is recovering from a torn Achilles tendon.

"At 6'7", Nick's size, ability to create his own shot and athleticism make him a versatile player who will give our lineup multiple looks on the floor," said Kupchak in a statement, according to ESPN. "He's an exciting player, and we're excited to have him on our roster."
