The Boston Celtics' rebuilding effort is expected to continue in the coming days with All-Star point guard Rajon Rondo likely to be traded next after the proud franchise parted ways with Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce and Jason Terry on Thursday.

After sending Doc Rivers to the Los Angeles Clippers for a first round pick, the Celtics finally broke the core of its 2008 NBA Championship team by trading Garnett and Pierce, along with Terry to the Brooklyn Nets in exchange for Keith Bogans, Reggie Evans, Kris Humphries, Tornike Shengelia, Gerald Wallace, and three future first round picks (2014, 2016, and 2018).

According to ESPN basketball analyst Tim Legler, Thursday's blockbuster trade only signals the end of the era for the Celtics and moving Rajon Rondo for a young point guard or more future draft picks could happen anytime this offseason.

Celtics GM Danny Ainge insisted the All-Star point guard is untouchable from any trade talks so far, but Legler is convinced the team will eventually trade Rondo primarily because he's not the "ideal player" to build a team around.

The analyst added that Rondo is not the type of player that can produce 20 or more points per game compared to other combo guards such as Deron Williams, Russell Westbrook, and Derrick Rose, making it easy for the Celtics to trade probably their last relevant asset from their championship contending years.

Rondo averaged 13.7 points, 11.1 assists, and 5.6 rebounds per game before he went down with an ACL injury midway into the 2012-2013 season.
