The New York Knicks (38-22) are looking for a way to stay on top of the Atlantic Division as Carmelo Anthony continues to heal, but the Golden State Warriors (35-29) are hoping to make a playoff push of their own when the Warriors host the Knicks Monday night in Oakland.

The Knicks are still missing lead scorer Carmelo Anthony, who has been sitting out the last three games due to knee issues. However, in his absence, J.R. Smith has been stepping up, averaging 26.6 points in those three games since Anthony's absence, during which the Knicks have gone 2-1. But with a five-game West Coast swing about to kick off Monday, the Knicks will need their top scorer back as they face off against playoff contenders including the Warriors, Clippers, Nuggets, and the Utah Jazz.

Meanwhile, the Warriors have been slipping in the standings as of late, having lost two straight and dropping six of their last 10 games. That's bad news with the Houston Rockets and the LA Lakers right behind them in the standings for Golden's State's No.6 playoff seed. However, the last time the Warriors and the Knicks faced off on Feb. 27, Golden State's flashy point guard Stephen Curry scored a whopping 54 points against the Knicks at Madison Square Garden though the Knicks prevailed 109-105.

Curry, who will be playing on Monday, was on fire that night, making 18-of-28 field goal shots and sinking 11-of-13 three-pointers, one shy of the league record. Anthony kept the Knicks in the game with 35 points of his own, but with Anthony on day-to-day status, there is no guarantee that Melo will be on hand for Monday's match-up.

Another key Knick that New York will be without is power forward Amar'e Stoudemire, who will require surgery on his right knee and will miss roughly six weeks of the remaining regular season. Stoudemire's loss hurts the Knicks, as he has been productive off the bench with 14.2 points in 29 games as a sub since he returned from knee surgery earlier in the season.

"It helps because we did play without Amare but we would love to have Amare back. We know that," guard Jason Kidd said, as reported by ESPN. "The big thing for us is we get Melo back coming up and then we go on the West Coast trip and try to come back with a positive record."
