The USC Scripter award has named "12 Years a Slave" the Best Adapted Screenplay of the year.

The Academy's makeup branch has always been known for their idiosyncratic choices and this year the three nominees are as unusual as always. Out of the three nominees only one is nominated for Best Picture and the other two are some of the worst films of the year. Past winners include "Les Miserables," "The Iron Lady," ""The Wolfman," and "Star Trek."

The Academy's board of Governors have decided to rescind the original song nomination for "Alone Yet Not Alone," music by Bruce Broughton and lyric by Dennis Spiegel. However the board decided not to place an additional nominee in the category.
