One Massachusetts senate seat could go vacant as Democratic Senator John Kerry will undergo confirmation hearings to succeed Hillary Clinton as Secretary of State.

Sen. Kerry will appear before the Foreign Relations Committee on Jan. 24, the first day of the confirmation hearings.

Democratic Sen. Robert Menendez of New Jersey will chair the hearings on what will likely be an easy confirmation for Kerry.

This will not be Kerry's first time speaking before the Foreign Relations Committee as back in 1971, the Vietnam War veteran testified about the actions U.S. troops committed in the Southeast Asian country and called for immediate withdrawal.

The Foreign Relations Committee will not only hear from the likely Secretary of State but they will also her from current Secretary of State Clinton.

Clinton is scheduled to appear before the committee on Jan. 23, where she is set to discuss and answer questions in regards to the deaths of four Americans and attack on an American embassy in Benghazi, Libya on Sept. 11, 2012.

Clinton was scheduled to speak with the panel in December but the date was rescheduled after the former New York senator fell ill.
