President Barack Obama is set to discuss the recommendations set forth by a task force led by Vice President Joe Biden following the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting.

According to several reports, recommendations by the task force include universal background checks, and the bans of assault weapons and high-capacity magazines.

It has been said the president will propose legislation he has previously supported such as the strengthening of federal background checks for people attempting to purchase guns and restrictions on high-capacity magazines, this has been confirmed by White House spokesman Jay Carney.

A source told CNN the president's proposal includes a ban on magazines that hold more than 10 rounds in addition to funding for metal illness and schools for safety.

A hot topic of debate is the president's use of executive orders, which he could pass laws without Congress approval. The president could use a few of the recommendations and enact executive actions, and this was supported by Carney.

The National Rifle Association (NRA), and other gun lobbyists, have been vocal against the potential gun crackdown. The NRA released an advertisement which calls President Obama an "Elitist Hypocrite."

The NRA asked if Obama's "kids are more important than yours?" and noted how his children are protected by armed officials.

The NRA ad ends with the statement, "Stand and Fight."

President Obama and Vice President Biden will discuss the recommendations live today, Latinos Post will be a recap after the event.
