Why Gael Garcia Bernal & ‘Mozart in the Jungle’ Won the Golden Globes

Gael Garcia Bernal is on cloud nine!

Not only did the series that he stars in, "Mozart in the Jungle," win Best Musical or Comedy Television Series at the Golden Globes Sunday night, he also won Best Actor for his role as Rodrigo De Souza, the young, talented and hilarious symphony conductor in the Amazon series.

"Mozart in the Jungle" began airing in 2014, but it was only in its current and second season that it won its first Golden Globe.

According to Latina, when "Mozart in the Jungle" first came out, Gael Garcia Bernal excitedly described the symphony series to them:

"The world it's set in. It's fantastic! The world of classical music. It's brilliant. It's fun. It's small as well. It's ten episodes of half an hour each. And, it's just the curiosity of doing it. Being in New York. The people who are doing it. The story is pretty good. I like it."

"Mozart in the Jungle"

1. The second season of the show, which won at the Golden Globes on Sunday, premiered its entirety on December 30.

A sincere comedy with a crazy sensibility, the series follows a group of classical musicians who are part of a fictional New York symphony and are faced with challenges in keeping classical music symphonies alive in the world of music streaming. As a result, high and low cultures collide in this comedy series.

3. According to Vulture, the symphony series is inspired by Blair Tindall's "classical-music insider's memoir," "Sex, Drugs, and Classical Music." However, "Mozart in the Jungle" provides a more gentle look into the world of classical music, which merges with its "prevailing aesthetic" of the playful modern world - roommate and money troubles, messy romances and lost instruments, among others.

4. In the first season, the recurring theme was of classical music as belonging to the concert hall and possibly out of it. The second season takes classical music outside of the concert hall and into the "jungle" with a series of performances in unexpected places, such as a youth symphony performing in a Mexico plaza.

5. "Mozart in the Jungle" is basically about how classical music will survive in the current world. The audience is given a taste of the absurd while defending a near extinct art form.
