We cannot deny that telenovelas have a special place in primetime television; more so, in the Latin American culture.

That is why former "Desperate Housewives" star Eva Longoria wasted no time in promoting her newest drama and showcasing her acting skills when she appeared as a guest on "The Ellen DeGeneres Show."

"I know you've been sleeping with my brother's wife's sister's cousin!" she "expertly" delivered during a more entertaining part of the famous talk show hosted by Ellen DeGeneres. On Jan 7, Longoria guest starred on the show to talk about her most-recent engagement as well as amuse the audience with an improvised telenovela segment she acted on with DeGeneres titled "Dos Amigas."

According to Pop Sugar, Longoria sported a blond curly wig while People's Choice favorite humanitarian winner DeGeneres wore a prosthetic cleavage and said her lines in perfect "Spanglish."

In an interview with NBC News, the actress, director and producer of the new primetime comedy "Telenovela" fondly shared that the new series will appeal to everyone especially Latinos, who will probably laugh at the soap opera actress she plays whose character cannot speak the native language.

"I play the star, Ana Sofía, of a Spanish soap who does not speak Spanish - she just memorizes her lines, so she's kind of like a fish out of water," said Longoria, as per NBC News. She added that she is similar to the character in a sense that it is how she grew up: "a Texas Latina who didn't speak Spanish."

"Navigating that identity in the United States was definitely interesting," Longoria shared, as per the same report. Since then, she noted that she has learned the language and that she now has a "different relationship" with her heritage.

In her interview, Longoria revealed that she is proud of the all-Latino cast she was able to assemble -- aside from "Devious Maids." The actress is proud of the feat, as for her, it is never seen on television.

Jencarlos Canela, a big pop star in Latin America, plays Longoria's ex-husband on the show. Other actors included in "Telenovela" are Amaury Nolasco, who plays the antagonist, and Diana Maria Riva, who plays Mimi Moncada, Longoria's best friend and the show's seamstress and clothing designer.

Longoria believes that the show is relatable especially for Latinos. "For Latinos specifically, there is this ebb and flow of pressure to assimilate, and pressure to be monolingual, to be you know, acculturated - [yet] Latinos so much want to hold on to their culture and their heritage," she noted, as told by NBC News.

"It is a beautiful thing to be bicultural, to be hyphenated, say Mexican-American or Cuban-American," she added on.
