With John Cena ruled out on account of a shoulder injury, reigning United States champion Alberto Del Rio has been left without an opponent at the 2016 WWE Royal Rumble.

Del Rio has been tied up with the League of Nations, overshadowing the importance of the US title.

However, it seems that the WWE could be soon addressing that if this report from Wrestling News Post bares fruit; and the opponent is the same person who dealt the Hispanic star an upset at the last episode of WWE Smackdown.

The WWE star in mention is Kalisto, someone who has long been rumored to be next to get a WWE push. He is seen more of these days as one half of the Lucha Dragons who is paired up with Sin Cara.

Though nothing has been made official as of yet, it does address the WWE’s earlier plans of building up its Hispanic following, as previously mentioned on the DailyDDT.

Back in October, the WWE was plotting out possibilities on reviving the seemingly forgotten niche. Del Rio and Rey Mysterio were in the center of all those rumors, not to mention Carlitos and some other former WWE Latin stars who have since moved on to other brands.

With that in mind, this could be just what the WWE needs to address that concern.

It remains uncertain what may possibly turn out at the WWE Royal Rumble if the match does become a reality. It also begs to ask the question on the existence of the tag team which seems to be gaining momentum against the current champions, the New Day.

Kalisto’s win is being ranted as the biggest win of his career and something commentators brand as an upset. And each time that happens, something has got to be brewing backstage.

Right now, the hype covering the U.S. title is not that sound, especially since the WWE finds itself scrambling for new faces to perk up their stock. Cena’s injury all the more deflated that intent though stars like Kalisto could pretty well gain if the WWE calls for it.

The 2016 Royal Rumble takes place on Jan. 24 at the Amway Center in Orlando, Florida where the main event is perhaps one that interests many the most.

For those who haven’t heard, the WWE heavyweight title will be on the line meaning current champion Roman Reigns has to find a way to survive against 29 other superstars to keep his plum.

Ironically, Alberto Del Rio and Kalisto could be among those participants as well.
