"Girls" is signing off from HBO after a sixth season. While it was only speculations previously, there is a current report stating that the end is indeed near.

E News reports that insiders have revealed that "Girls" already has an end date. The sixth season of the HBO hit show is said to be the last. Season five of the season is yet to premiere so there are technically two more seasons to enjoy before fans need to officially say goodbye.

Earlier on, Lena Dunham, creator and writer of "Girls," has already provided some hints that she intended to wrap up the show soon.

Back in April 2015, she already told Variety that she somehow cannot see the show extending further than the sixth season. She explained that America has a tendency to prolong shows beyond their "due dates" and she does not prefer this. She said she likes the "British model" of "in and out." At the time, she shared that she was still unsure of what to make of Hannah's ending. In particular, she was wondering if it will be a good a idea for Hannah to end up with anyone on the show and true to her feminist nature, was wondering whether having someone to be with should even be a "marker of success for a woman."

In September 2015, she spoke with Elvis Duran on his radio show and shared that as she nears 30 years of age, she's ready to let go of the show. " "Never say never, but that is the way we're thinking about it right now and we're starting to think about sort of how to wrap up the storylines of these particular young women," Dunham said. "It's really exciting. I started working on this show when I was 23, and I'm going to be 30 soon so it kind of feels right that this show sandwiched my 20s and then I go off into the world," she added.

Variety, however, reports that this will not be the end of Dunham's relationship with HBO. The writer actress already signed with the network to produce a comedy pilot called "Max." This is a show on 1960s feminism, and is expected to attract many female viewers.

Dunham will be the director and executive producer for "Max", along with three others: Murray Miller, Jenni Konner and Ilene Landres. The pilot was penned by Miller, who was also a writer and executive producer on "Girls." Even though the project has long been developed, insiders shared that HBO is still waiting for the cast to be completed before deciding on whether to order the pilot officially.

There is still no air date, cast and plot updates for Season 6. Everything will be clearer after Season 5 of "Girls" premieres on February 21 on HBO. Below is the Season 5 trailer from HBO:
