With all the delays with the script and changes in directors, as well as Channing Tatum being excited about the project then supposedly leaving and then joining again, the "Gambit" solo movie is apparently still on course to be released.

According to Cinemablend, the film is still holding an Oct. 7, 2016 release date. However, as of this article, filming has not yet started. This means that most likely, the date of the film will be pushed back to at least the first quarter 2017 when it will be sharing time with the yet-to-be-named "Wolverine" film.

This could cause problems as this will be the last film in which Hugh Jackman will be playing the iconic super-healing mutant. Fox would not want both films competing with each other for box office tickets.

As of now, Doug Liman has been confirmed as the director for the film. Liman is not Fox's first choice for the spot. That choice originally belonged to "Rise of the Planet of the Apes" director Ruper Wyatt.

However, according to Inquistr, Wyatt decided to drop out of the project late 2015, citing scheduling conflicts as his reason to leave.

As for the star of the film, Channing Tatum is still confirmed to play the lead role. However, as stated previously, Tatum did go through some mixed feelings about the film in late 2015. The actor was first extremely excited to play Gambit and was the main reason why Fox green-lighted the film so fast.

However, rumors started that the film wasn't as ready as everyone thought it was, and Tatum almost abandoned the project. However, the actor's management team has confirmed that Tatum is still on board with the film.

As the female lead, it has been confirmed that Lea Seydoux will be playing Bella Donna Boudreaux, Gambit's love interest and betrothed. She has the power of energy projection, as well as minor psychic powers.

Currently, it is not known who will be the villain of the film but it is heavily rumored that Mr. Sinister will be lurking in the shadows. While not confirmed, the character has had several ties with Gambit and would make perfect sense to introduce him to the X-Men Cinematic Universe with this film.

As stated previously "Gambit" is still slated for release on Oct. 7, 2016 in theatres, but given that the movie is still not filming at the time of this article, that is most likely going to be pushed back.
