The year is ending and resolutions for the upcoming year are emerging, albeit accompanied with a sense of dread and foreknowing that, somehow, not all of them will be accomplished.

Taking note of that, we've put together a list of the top 10 resolutions that keep getting broken the most. See whether one of these are also the goals you've failed to notch year after year.

Losing Weight or Getting Fit

However you put it, the bottomline is that you're not making great strides or significant success with shaving off a few pounds (and keeping them off) or even increasing your physical activity.

You're not alone though. According to a Harris Interactive survey among 3,000 US residents, 21% vowed to lose weight before the year began, but only 40% remain on track by July, as noted in Oprah.com.

Earning or Saving More Money

With consumerism and new innovations in branding in full swing, it's hard to say no to retail therapy. There also are the unexpected, yet essential, expenses brought about by sickness or a major life event that makes this goal difficult, as well as finding a better-paying job.

Paying Off Debts or Staying Debt-Free

Who doesn't want to stay in the black? However, some may find it difficult to rise above their circumstances after getting caught in a financial snag due to issues in the economy or one's employment.

Ditching Smoking

Psychology professor John C. Norcross, Ph.D. was quoted by Oprah.com as saying that "it takes the average smoker five to seven attempts to kick this habit for good," which explains why this is so hard to do. But not impossible.

Going Teetotal

Like smoking, drinking alcohol is a tough habit to break, especially if you're more sensitive to the effects of alcohol than most people.

Reducing Stress

Negative stress can trigger a host of health and relationship problems, which is why many resolve to manage stress better each year. With the fast-paced dynamics of everyday life, striking a good balance becomes a very tricky thing.

Spending More Time with Family

Relationships are important, but the vicissitudes of life always seem to make you find very little or no time for the ones that matter most to you. Perhaps taking a step back and taking stock of your priorities could set things right for you next year.

Volunteering

Giving back to society gives you a different high that makes you wonder why you're not volunteering more often. Will 2016 be the year you'll do more charity work?

Traveling to New Destinations

Ever find yourself repeatedly telling friends or colleagues you've always wanted to go to a particular new place for the last 2 years or more? This must be one of the resolutions you've broken year after year, then.

Reading More

You'll know you've not made good on this goal at the end of the year when you find a box of unread books bought months or years ago that you haven't even read. Better get to it during the holidays!
