Selena Gomez assured fans that she is currently very healthy despite her battle against Lupus. She had successfully undergone chemotherapy and the results were positive. She, however, confessed that she is still uncomfortable about the issue, especially with the special attention she is getting since she announced her sickness in October.
"It has been overwhelming and the response has been very supportive, which is nice -- but it still makes me a little uncomfortable," the pop star told Billboard. "I waited for the right time to talk about it because I am in a great place and I'm very healthy. I'm not trying to be loud about it. It was time to use my platform to help," she said in an interview, which is to be published in Billboard magazine's Dec. 12 issue.
The Lupus Foundation of America defines Lupus as a choric, autoimmune disease that can damage any part of the body -- from skin, joints and internal organs of the body. Chronic means that the signs and symptoms tend to last longer than six weeks and often for many years. Lupus attacks the immune system. A weakened immune system makes the body susceptible to viruses, bacteria and germs.
Gomez hid from the spotlight in late 2013 to early 2014. She was already battling lupus around this time, but chose to keep it a secret. She spent two weeks at a treatment center. Rumor went wild around this time, claiming that she was admitted to a rehabilitation center for drug addiction.
Gomez had come out in the open about her 3-year battle against lupus, just before the release of her album, "Revival". She also revealed around this time that she underwent chemotherapy to treat the illness.
"I was diagnosed with lupus and I've been through chemotherapy," Gomez told Billboard in separate interview. "That's what my break was really about. I wanted so badly to say, 'You guys have no idea. I'm in chemotherapy. You're assholes.' I locked myself away until I was confident and comfortable again," she said of her experience.
It seems like Gomez is really ready to leave everything behind -- lupus and ex-boyfriend, Justin Bieber included. The 23-year-old pop star had just recently opened herself to online flirting. The current apple of her eye is NHL star, Tom Wilson, the Hollywood Life reported.
According to a source who has spoken with the Hollywood Life on condition of anonymity, Gomez did not know that Wilson had a girlfriend when she liked one of his photos on Instagram. "Selena Thinks Tom is hot, that's why she liked his Instagram post," the source said. Unfortunately, the NHL star already has a girlfriend, the source revealed.
