Troubled singer Sinead O'Connor's Facebook post detailing her suicide threat got her fans, and police, concerned.

The 48-year-old had uploaded a "rambling post" on her Facebook account, saying that she has been "howling crying for weeks" and that the last two nights "finished me off." This may have links to the hysterectomy she underwent in August, and the cancellation of her shows for this year in July as her son had been diagnosed with a "life-threatening illness."

"I have taken an overdose. There is no other way to get respect," her post said, as noted by MailOnline. "I am not at home, I'm at a hotel, somewhere in Ireland, under another name."

"If I wasn't posting this, my kids and family wouldn't even find out. I could have been dead here for weeks already and they'd never have known," she went on. "I'm such a rotten horrible mother and person."

Fans responded and urged her to keep fighting. About a thousand such messages had been sent within an hour after the post came up.

"Gardai Police were alerted to her message and found O'Connor," The Independent said. "She is reportedly 'safe and well' and receiving medical treatment."

Meanwhile, friend and fellow musician Mary Coughlan revealed to The Sun that O'Connor had previously mentioned about overdosing a week earlier. She even told Coughlan yesterday she would carry out her plan.

"She was in a Dublin city centre hotel and it was feared that she took an overdose," a source told the publication.

"Gardai and paramedics rushed down and they are helping her now," the source went on. "She is safe and city centre gardai and paramedics got to her in time - she is going to be OK."

"Everyone close to Sinead just wants to help her and hopefully now she will get the help she needs," the insider added.

The singer has been plagued by mental health issues, as the mother of four has been diagnosed with bipolar disorder and had undergone hospitalization various times.

"Ms O'Connor achieved worldwide fame in 1990 with the song 'Nothing Compares 2 U', written by Prince," MailOnline noted. "Since bursting on to the scene in 1990 with hit record 'Nothing Compares 2 U', O'Connor has courted controversy over issues unrelated to her musical career."

O'Connor fans are probably relieved the musician's attempt had been intercepted by authorities. Will the recent incident spark a new direction for the singer? Let us know what you think.
