A new “Star Wars” ad recently surfaced, showing three popular robots mingling. Fans got to see C-3PO, R2-D2 and BB-8 at the same time in the footage, which promotes the upcoming film “Star Wars: The Force Awakens.”
The video was posted by O2 UK, a cell phone provider, on Twitter. It lasted for 40 seconds.
“Win tickets to the UK premiere on O2 Priority. In a galaxy far, far away, tickets to the UK premiere of STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS are up for grabs on O2 Priority.” the caption stated.
The starting scene featured C-3PO, with a noticeably new red arm, and R2-D2, who looked very much the same, wandering a wide dry desert.. The two were tired from their long travel but treaded on. The next scene featured BB-8 speeding onward. BB-8 moved past the two robots and almost missed them, until C-3PO called out to it, IGN reported. With a familiar dramatic “Star Wars” tune playing in the background, the trio united with a beautiful sunset backdrop. The three droids exchanged beeps, but C-3PO was doing most of the talking, as usual. It seemed that BB-8 was the one they were looking for in the vast desert. The robot proceeded to beam towards the viewers, and the ad announced a chance for fans to win tickets to the movie premiere in the UK.
For fans who are unfamiliar with the “Star Wars” mythology, C-3PO and R2-D2 are droids who appeared in the first trilogy. BB-8 will be seen onscreen for the first time. It is expected that the three will have certain interesting supportive roles to play, alongside the familiar heroes in the saga. Esquire wrote that it is still uncertain whether the new ad, as well as previous video clips, were actually taken from the movie. There are fan theories that most, if not all, of the trailers are not actual movie footage to keep the story under wraps until the official release. Director J.J. Abrams has been very good at keeping much of the plot secret in the past several months.
CNet noted that the three robots communicated to send an important message that “Star Wars – Episode VII” will be shown soon.
“Star Wars: The Force Awakens” will launch in theaters on Dec. 18, 2015. More updates and details are expected soon.
