The "Rambo" films were arguably one of the biggest action movie franchises during the 1980's, and action star Sylvester Stallone is currently trying to hand off the franchise to a newer generation.

The action star is doing the same thing with another one of his franchises, the iconic underdog "Rocky." However, according to Cinemablend Stallone isn't handing off the franchise the conventional way. Instead, he is continuing the "Rocky" story by teaching the son of his best friend / rival Apollo Creed in the upcoming film "Creed."

During a promotional interview about "Creed," Stallone was asked if he would be doing the same fan service to any other of his movie franchises and the Italian actor stated that he would like to do something for his "Rambo" series.

While the choice of franchises was not surprising seeing Rambo is probably what Stallone is most known for after "Rocky," his choice of actors Stallone would want to replace him might be shocking.

Stallone stated that he would most want "Notebook" actor Ryan Gosling to replace him as John Rambo.

Movie Web states that Stallone is a big fan of Gosling and that he believes that Gosling is a little bit more like Rambo in the books than in the movies Stallone himself acted in. Fans might remember that the first "Rambo" movie was nothing like its sequels, where the character is forced to go back into action.

When asked about considering playing the ex-Vietnam War veteran turned super soldier by the US Government, Gosling was shocked. The actor stated that it would be an incredible experience to play such an iconic character, and the fact that Stallone knows his name at all is something to be proud of.

However, the rumor is that Stallone is still slated to play the iconic soldier one last time in a movie he is currently writing himself called "Rambo 5: Last Blood." So it might be a while before Stallone hands over the keys to the character.

Stallone does have a pretty full schedule for the next few years considering that "Expendables 4" has been confirmed for shooting in 2016 and premiering in theaters by 2017. It would be only after that would Stallone be able to work on "Rambo 5," so perhaps by 2019 - 2020 the series will be vacated? Only time will tell.

What do you think about Stallone choosing Ryan Gosling as the next John Rambo? Who would you pick to play the iconic soldier? Let us know in the comments below.
