The recent Whole Foods listeria outbreak has caused another massive recall of food products by the organic food giant. Products being recalled include packaged curry chicken and Classic Deli pasta salads in affected stores in the states of Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New York, New Jersey, New Hampshire and Rhode Island.

The listeria contamination was discovered via an FDA routine inspection at Whole Foods' North Atlantic kitchen facility.

The sell by date of salads sold between October 18 and 22 is October 23, therefore people who have bought these products during the said dates should take concern.

"The salads were sold prepackaged, in salad bars, in store's chef's cases and in sandwiches and wraps prepared in the stores," according to the Whole Foods website.

As of this reporting, there have been no reported illnesses, according to CBS Boston.

Listeriosis, a bacteria invading and replicating inside the cells of humans, is caused by listeria contamination. Though some people who consume food contaminated with listeria experience little to no symptoms, others, especially young children, pregnant women, the elderly, and those with weakened immune systems, can become extremely ill when infected.

Symptoms developed from listeria include muscle ache, nausea, fevers and diarrhea. Extreme and serious complications include brain abscesses, meningitis, mental changes, and necrosis, including death. Expectant mothers should take extra caution as listeria can cause stillbirth, premature birth, miscarriage, even a possible fatal infection following birthgiving.

Other conditions most vulnerable to infection include the elderly, particularly those older than 65, those with diabetes or kidney disease, those undergoing chemotherapy, those who have AIDS, and those who are taking medication due to organ transplant rejection.

Anyone who has bought the products mentioned above at Whole Foods during the previous week should consult his or her doctor.

A full refund is provided by Whole Foods for those affected by the recent listeria outbreak.

According to The Inquisitr, it may not be just Whole Foods affected by the multi-state outbreak, since the Centre for Disease Control (CDC) has recently announced that Listeriosis was found connected to Karoun Dairies, Inc.'s soft cheeses. The CDC warning also said that their investigation is over. However, there is a high chance that the infected cheeses may be consumed inside people's homes, through retail locations and restaurants.

Infected cheeses include the following:

  •  Ackawi
  •  Ani
  •  Farmers Goat Fresh
  •  California
  •  Cotija
  •  Fresco
  •  Fresh Cheese/Panela
  •  Feta
  •  Goat Milk Feta
  •  Mozzarella
  •  Nabulsi
  •  Paneer, Queso Blanco
  •  String Cheese
  •  Yanni Grilling
