Gennady Golovkin to Face Winner of Canelo Alvarez vs Miguel Cotto Fight?

Gennady Golovkin put on a dazzling display Saturday, eventually coming out with an eighth round stoppage over Canadian David Lemieux.

Golovkin was already a heavy favorite leading to the bout and Triple G displayed why.

The Kazakh’s power was in full throttle as usual and such rewarded him not only his 34th win but also the IBF middleweight title.

It was his 31st KO victory as well, not to mention the 21st opponent he has knocked out so far.

With another title on his waist, Golovkin is expected to revert to being a spectator to the upcoming Miguel Cotto vs. Canelo ‘Saul’ Alvarez match which will happen this November 21 at the Mandalay Bay Area in Las Vegas.

"I want all the belts, now I have two," Golovkin said via Yahoo Sports. "[I want] the winner of Cotto-Canelo, for sure."

Golokvin is likely to be pitted against the winner of that match though both fighters could be wary of the punching power of the Kazakh boxer. He has picked Canelo Alvarez to come out of that one and admits that Alvarez’ speed and youth are two facets that could likely pose problems for him in the event that he does end up facing the Mexican brawler.

Triple G has made it know that his mission is to unify all the middleweight titles and the next target is the one currently held by Cotto. Chances are that Golovkin could face the winner in 2016 despite fears of being shunned particularly on the part of Cotto.

Oscar Dela Hoya of Golden Boy Promotions has however promised to make the Golovkin vs. Alvarez materialize though it all depends first if the Mexican can triumph against a pretty experience fighter in Cotto.

Oscar De La Hoya tells me he would "absolutely" make Canelo-Golovkin if Canelo beats Cotto next month.

That plus the fact that the WBC had originally ordered Cotto to face Golovkin could make the tiff a certainty despite claims by the camp of Cotto that the Kazakh boxer has yet to prove he deserves to fight the seasoned Cotto.

Golovkin is expected to be on hand in Las Vegas that day, paying close attention to both fighters and their styles. Though his next fight is technically up in the air as we speak, it is apparent that a Golovkin vs. Cotto or Golovkin vs. Alvarez is the next big match that many would love to see.
