Someone went through a lot of trouble to plant a cannabis forest, which is now being destroyed by police in south-west London.

The cannabis "forest" was discovered by police officers from Kingston Upon Thames. 150 marijuana plants which resembled Christmas pine trees were reportedly nestled in between native plant life. Standing at an impressive 5 feet tall, officers took a moment to snap a photo with the illegal plant life. Thy then posted their findings to social media using the hashtags #TheseAren'tXmasTrees and #saynotodrugs.

"Kingston Police called to a few cannabis plants. We found a forest!

"An interesting find on Grove ward. We're going on a bear hunt!!!!#saynotodrugs ‪#Grove"

The Guardian reports Police Chief Sarah Henderson of Kingston said, "The area these plants were growing on was the size of a football pitch, it looked like a small forest of Christmas trees and was complete with a gazebo."

She also added, "Whoever set this up used a really remote spot. The only way to get there was a 20-minute walk through wasteland. But all their time, trouble and gardening skills will go unrewarded, as the whole lot will now be destroyed by police."

The authorities were notified via phone call of the plants growing on private land that was no longer being used.

However triumphant the authorities feel after their discovery, 4-20 friendly members of the Twittersphere were quick to harp on the police for destroying the vegetation.

@Mayro_117 "how about just leaving the plants alone? Theres no reason for you to disturb them and you know youve failed on this drug "war".

@Yiquai "them are probably hemp and good for the habitat. Destroying any plants is unnecessary and if not they should be used medically!"

@APAllianceUK "I take it there were no serious crimes to investigate so you had time to arrest some plant life. Well done!"

@ElliotHayes "well done you brave souls. You've saved many lives today. Far less people will die from the lethal marijuanas"

@JonnyRotten8 "they didn't even know it was there in a residential area until the public tipped them off! Top police work"

At this time, there have been no reports of who planted the contraband crops.
