Are those Jon Snow rumors ever going to end?

For the record, this update isn't about Jon Snow's fate in the upcoming season of "Game of Thrones." That's one clue.

Rather, this is about one other character that apparently is still alive. At least in the books, author George R.R. Martin said.

Can you guess who that character is?

If you don't want to dip your fingers into spoilers, you may stop reading at this point. Otherwise, carry on.

During a LiveJournal Q&A, Martin was asked Wednesday to confirm whether Stannis is really alive or dead.

"In my books? Alive, beyond a doubt," the author replied.

"Stannis is currently presumed dead in both the show 'Game of Thrones' and the 'Song of Ice and Fire' books upon which the HBO series is based," Time recalled. "In the books, Ramsay Snow spread a rumor that Stannis met his demise," the news source went on to say. "But in preview chapters for the upcoming 'Winds of Winter' that Martin posted online way back in 2012, that rumor proved untrue. Stannis is very much alive."

Despite this, it's not clear whether the last Baratheon's survival will translate to the TV series, the tailend of which has been confirmed as not following that of the books. Even before that point, the on-screen version has taken the liberty of changing some parts of Martin's tale.

"The series has diverged in many ways from the books, including killing off Stannis' daughter, Shireen," Time pointed out.

Mashable had noted that David Nutter, the director of the episode where Stannis apparently died, confirmed that the said character is indeed dead. And with that, as it appears, we should not expect to see him again on GOT.

Your thoughts on this update?

Recently, director Jeremy Podeswa, who helmed GOT's premiere for season 6, revealed that the upcoming season will start "with a bang and you're right into the excitement of the story."

"This is also the first season that's not based on one of the books. So there's an enormous fan curiosity of where we're going to go, and that makes me equally nervous and excited," he told Yahoo! News.

"I think everyone's going to be really happy. I don't think fans are going to be disappointed," he reiterated. "It's really big and expansive; the storylines are propulsive and moving forward. Every actor is excited by the arc of his or her storyline."

Sounds like a comforting reassurance.

However, when asked whether Snow will be back or if he's just going to appear in the premiere, Podeswa replied this way: "I have no comment other than to say that the show picks up where it left off last season."
