There's a very creepy island in the middle of Xochimilco's water canals in Mexico City.
If you are looking for plants, flowers, soil or even trees, Xochimilco is the place for you. Years ago, it started to attract tourists and undergraduates due to the music, drinks, night life and 'trajineras', that are special watercrafts used by locals to move around the place. Today, trajineras take people on small tours around the lake of Xochimilco while they sing with mariachis, eat and drink tequila.
But there's more than meets the eye. Let's go find the island with some help from imgur user WhiskeyTangoFoxtrot:

You have to go through miles of canals to reach the island.
First glimpse
Nearly arriving at the dock
and you are greeted by this.
This is the altar the old man made in order to scare off the spirit which haunted him his entire life.
This is where the body of the little girl was found and where later the old man drowned.
Leaving the island.
Short background on the island. It is located in Xochimilco Mexico and its only accessible by boat. Many years ago the person that lived on the island found a little girl that had washed up on the shore, she had drowned. He claimed he was haunted by the spirit of the little girl and so he began to collect dolls to scare off the spirit. This did not help, legend says the little girl possessed the dolls and that you can here them whispering to each other and they even sometimes move. After 50 years of collecting dolls the man was found drowned in the same place the little girl had been found. On my trip there I don’t experience any paranormal activity, not that I believe in it, but still, it has to be one of the creepiest places I’ve ever been.

BONUS:

Visitors say the dolls whisper and that the spirits are very much alive in the dolls. If you have seen the footage from the TV show Destination Truth, the gif above is looking at a doll sitting upright, and the doll opens its eye on its own.
