Anderson Silva is set to appear in front of the Nevada State Athletic Commission to attend a hearing concerning his failed drug test at UFC 183.

To recall, Silva was on the comeback trail after a horrific leg injury facing Nick Diaz during UFC 183 held at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas last February.

Silva won the match after outpointing Diaz, a breakthrough of sorts for the UFC middleweight fighter who had been in the sidelines for almost a year. Silva was a 3-to-1 favorite heading into the match against Diaz.

While that triumphant return was a bright spot, Silva’s return was tainted with a dark issue as well. This had to do with the failed drug test mentioned earlier though it seems that the cause of it all has been now singled out.

According to Combate, Silva’s camp had already sent their response in connection with the failed drug tests. Per the report, it seems that the root of it all is a sexual performance product.

“Silva was administering or using a supplement for the purpose of enhancing sexual performance,” the response reads, “testing of the supplement revealed that the supplement was contaminated with an Exogenous Anabolic Agent: Drostanolone Metabolite. The contaminated supplement is the cause of the presence of the Exogenous Anabolic Agent – Drostanolone Metabolite in Silva’s urine.”

Aside from the alleged sexual performance drug, there are also other possible supplements which could have caused the fail drug exam. That includes oxazepam and temazepam, medications that Silva reportedly took to address anxiety and insomnia.

For his part, Silva admitted have taken one or more of the Benzodiazepines substances since he could not sleep the night before his match.

The setback is a sad note to the comeback trail of Silva who put an end to his two-fight losing streak. On the other hand, an obliging Nick Diaz suffered his third straight loss.

Though a lot would depend on the outcome of the hearing, there is still no word yet on what Silva plans to do from here. There are some who believe that Silva could be given another crack at current middleweight champion Chris Weidman.

Weidman dealt him a knockout loss back in UFC 162 and was the same opponent where he broke his leg (UFC 168).

It remains to be seen what will happen when Silva faces the Nevada State Athletic Commission at 12 pm ET. He is the no. 20 item on the agenda.
