The European Super Cup officially marks the return to competitive action for Europe's domestic football. Champions League winners Barcelona face fellow Spaniards and Europa League winners Sevilla.
The Boris Paichadze Dinamo Arena in Georgia was perhaps a little bit of a surprise venue to host today's Super Cup Final as both Barcelona and Sevilla will have to make a six hour flight in order to participate.
However, with the rivalry that these teams have enjoyed over recent years, neither side will allow for any excuses once they take to the pitch.
The two sides have a history in this competition, Barcelona will be keen on revenge after their 2006 3-0 humbling at the hands of Sevilla, a team that featured current Barcelona right back Dani Alves.
Barcelona will enter the Tiblisi stadium as favorites after their magnificent treble-winning season last year and with talisman Lionel Messi able to return to their attacking lineup the Catalans will no doubt fancy their chances of lifting their fourth title under boss Luis Enrique.
Enrique speaking to journalists before the game has targeted this match to start the Blaugrana season on a high saying: "We want to enjoy ourselves and win a trophy."
His mood might be slightly dampened by the loss of Neymar who was taken ill during the week, as well as Jordi Alba and Douglas who are unavailable due to injuries.
Neymar misses the opportunity to link up again with Messi and Luis Suarez, who formed an incredible attacking trio for Barcelona last season scoring an unrivaled 114 goals in all competitions.
For Enrique's counterpart Unai Emery in the Sevilla dugout this marks an occasion where his side could potentially spring a surprise.
Emery said: "Barcelona are favorites, but we have the advantage of being the surprise. It would be a big boost to our confidence if we were to win."
Sevilla have had to reshape their side this summer, most notably to contend with the loss of last season top scorer Carlos Bacca who left the club to join AC Milan.
It means that Ciro Immobile could make his first competitive start for Sevilla up front and could be joined by the exciting additions of Gael Kakuta and Evgen Konoplyanka, who both joined in the summer.
Emery is yet to beat Barca as a manager but will target this pre-season match to end his baron spell against the club and show his team will be equally competitive this season.
