Who will gain the nod of being featured alongside Lionel Messi for EA Sports’ FIFA 16?

The word out is that a female soccer player may likely be featured in the cover of FIFA 16 especially after the US women’s soccer team’s triumph in the recently concluded World Cup.

The US defeated Japan 5-2 Sunday.

The idea first came out last May 28 when EA Sport made a formal announcement that women will be included in its annual FIFA Soccer simulation game.

Glimpses of what to expect were revealed during a recent press conference where the character models are said to be different from the men’s version. Also, men’s teams and women’s teams will not be allowed to go up against each other, a move that was said to be made to make the game authentic. Other than that, the game is pretty much played in the same way.

There are, however, some restrictions as far as the women’s team is concerned. There will only be 12 teams available, all of which are international squads. The women’s teams are composed of USA, Canada, Mexico, Brazil, England, Spain, Germany, Italy, France, Sweden, China and Australia.

With that settled, the question now is which female player would gain the nod to be featured on the cover. That issue will be left to a public voting system put up by EA Sports to determine which players will appear in regions such as Britain, France, Mexico and Latin America.

The winners will be announced before the game officially launches this coming September.

As far as Asia is concerned, midfielder Shinji Kagawa has been chosen to appear in the co-cover.

While most regions will leave the decision to the voting system, it seems that the case does not hold true in the United States. There is no public voting system in play which could indicate that EA Sports has already made up their mind on who to feature.

Could it be Carli Lloyd, the player that US President Barack Obama singled out after scoring three goals during the US vs. Japan match?

How about goal keeper Hope Solo? Other possible candidates could include strikers Alex Morgan or Sydney Leroux. Winger Megan Rapinoe and Abby Wambatch may even be in the mix as well.

The final verdict on which female soccer player will make the grade should be known soon. With the World Cup final seen by over 2 million viewers, better than the NBA Finals, it should be interesting to see which member would be given the honor of appearing on the upcoming EA Sport game.
