At 8:02 p.m., CNN projected polling results showing that President Obama will emerge the winner in several key states in the East Coast.

Connecticut, Delaware, Washington DC, Illinois, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, and Rhode Island will be picked up by Obama, CNN projected minutes ago.

This latest tally puts Obama ahead of Romney 64-40 in the Electoral College numbers for the presidency Tuesday night.

Meanwhile, in the key battleground state of Virginia, as if 8:15 p.m., Romney is estimated to be in the lead, 57 percent to 42 percent, with at least 16 percent of the vote in The Old Dominion state.

And in critical swing state Ohio, Obama is projected to be ahead of Romney by a similar margin, 56 percent to 42 percent, with at least 13 percent of Ohio votes reporting in thus far. Real Clear Politics polls have been projecting a close race in this state for weeks, with Obama ahead 2.9 percent in most polls heading into Election Night.
