In an interview with Huffington Post Live, Demi Lovato speaks about her boyfriend, Wilmer Valderrama. The former Disney star credits her boyfriend for being the reason behind her sobriety and identified him as the person who helped her get through bipolar depression.

Providing details about her recent mental health awareness campaign, which she calls "Be Vocal," the singer-actress aims to encourage other bipolar sufferers. It can be noted that Lovato went through bumps on her way to mental recovery.

"I was dealing with bipolar depression and didn't know what was wrong with me. Little did I know, there was a chemical imbalance in my brain. Because I didn't tell people what I need, I ended up self-medicating and coping with very unhealthy behaviors," Demi said.

"It's a disease, just like diabetes: You have to find the right treatment for what you have. You're not broken. It's nothing to be ashamed about," the 'X Factor' judge added.

Lovato said that it was her family and friend's intervention that made her seek treatment for the last couple of years. She said that her therapy was her turning point - both in her personal life as well as career.

"I don't want to be miserable anymore -- I deserve to live a life better than this. Now I live well with bipolar disorder. Happiness is a choice. Life is a roller coaster. You can make the highs as amazing as possible, and you can control how low the lows go," Lovato said.

Her 35-year-old boyfriend, Valderrama, who she's with for five years now, is one of her top support system. She expressed how proud she is of her beau and his selflessness towards her well-being.

"He never takes credit for my sobriety, but I guarantee I wouldn't be alive without him today," Lovato said of her 'That 70's Show' alum beau. "We're in control of what we're able to post online, and we're very open about our relationship. As I get more serious in my life, I'm more proud. I also wanted to give him a lot of credit that he never takes," she said.

Aside from her happy love life and her campaign, Lovato is also partnering with Nick Jonas to launch their record label. The two are working with Phil MacIntyre to create Safehouse Records, according to Forbes.
