Jay-Z and Beyonce may own a lot of things, but the trademark to their daughter's name isn't one of them.

The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office has ruled that the couple cannot trademark the name "Blue Ivy."

Rolling Stone says the couple filed the petition trademark right after their baby was born with plans to produce a line of baby products including carriages, diaper bags and baby cosmetics.

The article tells of a Boston wedding planner, Veronica Alexandra, who has been using the name since 2009 for her company. She also attempted to trademark the name. The patent office sent a letter to Jay and Bey telling them they can use the name for "other potential endeavors," and Alexandra can use the name for wedding planning and marketing and advertising.

"I knew this was going to be a bittersweet roller coaster," Alexandra told Rolling Stone. "If this wasn't going to work, I'd go after both of them. Like, 'Let's do it!' In my mind I had some protective rights. There's no way by way of being a celebrity they should have entitlement [to the name]. Shame on them."

MTV says Alexandra "still respects" Beyonce and harbors no hard feelings, but business is business.

"I can't be frustrated with something I think is going to bring me to produce and define my brand even more, which is financially exciting in itself and intellectually exciting as well," she said to the Boston Globe. "It's like they caused me to create more opportunity for myself."

Alexandra said she was "shocked" when she found out what the superstar couple named their first child.

"I didn't think it was true because nobody names their daughter Blue Ivy."
