A press release sent by the House of Representatives denied the statements made by President Obama's adviser Valeria Jarrett in Las Vegas, where she assured that there was a commitment from the Speaker of the House, John Boehner, to the White House to approve immigration reform this year.

The destinies of 11 million undocumented immigrants living in the United States is still being decided in the House of Representatives. Despite Boehner saying multiple times that Republican Representatives are closing in on an agreement on the immigration law project, the reality is that the legal situation for immigrants is still in limbo.

"I think we have a window this summer, between now and August, to get something done," said Jarrett on Thursday in La Vegas. "We have a commitment from Boehner, who is very frustrated with his committee," she added.

On Friday, May 16, the Boehner's spokesman, Michael Steel, assured that the Republican leader has made no commitments to the White House. "Republicans are committed to reform our immigration system, but as the Speaker of the House has said repeatedly, it's difficult to see how we can progress until Americans have faith that President Obama will make the law effective," said Steel, reported TIME.

The House of Representatives has stopped an immigration law project approved in October, 2013 by the Senate, which provided a path towards citizenship for 11 million immigrants in the country, and also contemplated security on the southern border and granting work visas to qualified workers.
