Mexican actor and director Gael García Bernal is a part of the jury for the 2014 Cannes International Film Festival, which will be presided by New Zealander Jane Campion and will have a female majority for the first time since 2009.

According to Reuters, this year's jury for one of the most importal film festivals in the world will be comprised of five women and four men and will appoint Campion as its president due to being the only woman who has won the festival's main award, the Palme d'Or, in 1993.

The female jury is completed by Sofia Coppola, Carole Bouquet from France, Leila Hatami from Iran, and Jeon Do-yeon from South Korea; and the male jury is comprised by Willem Dafoe from the US, Jia Zhanke from China and Nicolas Winding Refn from Denmark.

The Cannes festival will take place from May 14 to 25 and will feature two films made by women: Japanese director Naomi Kawase's "Still the Water" and Italian director Alice Rohrwacher's "La Meraviglie".

The Cannes Film Festival had its first edition in 1965, competing with Venice and Berlin; however, the French festival fared better and became the largest international film festival in the world.
